Full moon? I don't think so!
When the head looks about as large as it's going to get, but before the tight green buds start to open into yellow flowerets, is the ideal time. Cut the head off with a sharp knife. But the harvest is not over! The plant will continue to produce side shoots all season long, and you can just snap these off - you don't even need a knife.

I garden organically so I don't even rinse mine, just toss 'em in the pot. If you have cabbage worms (and who doesn't?), they will float around in the cooking water and you can pick them out.

when it looks like the stuff in the store, but only when you are buck naked on the first full moon of the month at midnight. You must use a specially consecrated black handled paring knife to cut it and it must be cooked in a secret place far from any evil influences. It is just another veggie.

Don't let the flowers open. A few yellowish ones don't matter.
Unless you sprayed with some chemicals you can eat them as they are.
