I used to work a weekend shift, we worked every Saturday and Sunday for 12 hours a day, and had the rest of the week off. It was pretty sweet, since we got paid for 36 hours. But, in January they did away with my shift and now I work 1st shift through the week. I haven't worked a Sunday since.

I have never worked at a JOB on Saturday or Sunday -- but there's always sh!t to do around the house, that's for sure ;-)

What irks me are all the retail stores that insist on staying open on major holidays like Independence Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years etc...

give the retail slaves a break!

Although normally Sunday is the day off for all employees, yet it is not unusual to work on Sundays especially if the interest of work requires that (e.g restaurants) and if there is compensation ( financial or more holidays).

Yes. I work in human services and people have needs on Sundays like any other day of the week.

No, I do not work on Sundays at a 'job'. After church, if we don't go on a Sunday drive, beach or picnic or family/friend event, we come home and we prepare a large Sunday dinner - eat between 2 and 4 p.m. and chill. Sunday is a day for rest, family, friends, not for work. Of course, there are some, like our fire department, police, medical folks who have to work to make this all possible and we are grateful to them for their sacrifice.

In my first "real" full time job, I did work Sat. and Sun., and had Mon. & Tues. off. I did that for about 3 years, then I got a Monday through Friday job, and I've had that ever since, which has been several years.

I often bring work (paperwork, reading, memos to write) home with me to do on the weekend. Sometimes it gets done, sometimes not. Today will be 'not.'

No, you shouldn't have to work on Sundays whether you are religious or not. Commerce and Capitalism will not cease to exist and flourish if they world slowed down on Sundays.
