Brain says yes, but this professor grades according to what he would like to see even when more than one correction is correct. Can you check and see if the following is grammatically correct? (pronoun and antecendent agreement)

France gets 80 percent of its electrical needs from nuclear power. The have not had a serious mishap to date, but will their luck continue?

It seems ok to me! France being a country is an it. They refering back to the French.

If it were up to me, many of these sentences would recieve a complete rewrite! Unfortuanately we may only correct the topic of the day, which happens to be pronouns and antecedents.

The problem with "The(y)" in the second sentence is that you have not mentioned "The French." You have mentioned only "France."

Two ways to re-write:

France gets 80 percent of its electrical needs from nuclear power. It has not had a serious mishap to date, but will its luck continue?

or

The French get 80 percent of their electrical needs from nuclear power. They have not had a serious mishap to date, but will their luck continue?

Think it should be France gets 80 per cent of their.....

no not right...
i would have said
France RECEIVES not gets..
and instead of "The have not had" i would have used "THEY have not had.."
and since you have not said FRENCH yet only France you should not use they.. its to vague and will confuse people...
