1 Madrid - it's in Spain, the others in Italy
5 oats - all are roots, except oats
6 butte - all are plains, butte is a hill
8 Venice - all the others are capitals, Venice isn't
9 Grenada - the others are African countries (I think you meant Ghana)
10 fire - the others are frozen water
11 Annapurna - all the others are volcano's
12 flounder - it's a fish, the others are shellfish
13 leather - it's skin, the others are fibers
14 Honduras - it's an actual country, the others are territories
15 beech - it has leaves, the others have needles
16 bronze - it's an alloy, the others are pure metals
18 whale - it's a mammal, the others are fish
19 hay - the others are the name of a plant AND the product, hay however is dried grass
20 estuary - it's the mouth of a river, the others are all the same (a coastal shape)

I really hate these things. Look at #2 the answer is:

Missouri - all others have 3 syllables (answered above)
Minnesota - all others have a double s in the name
Massachusetts - all others are on the Mississippi River
Missouri - all others have some part of them east of the Mississippi River
Massachusettes (sic) - all others are spelled correctly
Mississippi - all others did not secede in the Civil War
Minnesota - all others were involved in the Civil War
Mississippi - All others use vowels other than 'i'
Massachusetts - All others end in a vowel
Massachusetts - all others have more than 10,000 sq. mi. of land area

You get the idea. This type of question really destroys creativity. It puts forth the idea that there is only one way to look at things. This is not a good thing when you are trying to get an education. You need to keep an open mind and teachers need to foster the ability of taking many approaches to a problem.
