We all know that the Earth is spherical, and there's only a finite surface area to populate. My question is completely theoretical. How would human civilisations cope in a landscape which was infinte in area. If you could travel in any direction and continue to find new continents and oceans no matter how far you travelled, what would be the effect?

Can't help thinking that in this case there would be a small group of people who would - against all scientific evidence to the contrary - insist that the world was actually spherical and that if you travelled far enough you'd end up where you started - the 'round earthers'.

Maybe not so different from actual human history. The route of essentially all mass human migrations has been from Africa outward. Until recent times, there has not been a mass migration that "wrapped around the Earth". In other words, Native Americans arrived in North America from Asia and Africa, but they never made it back around the globe to Europe in a way that significantly affected human history. The first "wrapping around" was the European conquest of the Americas, which is relatively recent history.

There would be less demand for round the world trips!! You would get a ring doughnut effect, assuming current theories of a point evolution of humans are correct. the question then is, what would happen at the centre of the ring?

Hi. You may have one main urban area surrounded by rural areas. As time went on the urban area may grow. You did say infinite so the central urban areas may decay or be sustained by the surrounding farms. It would resemble a wagon wheel, I think.
