its sad to say but America is failing. Truly power hungry democracy is failing.
Democracy in its infancy ( which it still is basically in the world) was a great idea. However, do we know what happens 400 years into it. Not really. Maybe apathy takes over and citizens who once yearned to self govern and control the power simply stop caring ( Look at any election turn out rate and you see this). Maybe fear drives them to grant all power to the government and allow the government to do what is must to keep them safe. Hey
if everyone had video cameras in their houses and jobs watching them no one could commit crime right????
Makes sense doesnt it???
Maybe a capitalist Democracy isnt the best
Whos down for moderation. Capitalism inherently creates poverty ( Anyone who plays a simple game of Monopoly can see this) someone has to lose. Maybe if the government is a little more socialist ( take a few billion away from the really rich and give it to poor communities ( spare me the bs speech on how billionaires earned the money and its theirs--sorry they cant get a yacht some people cant eat and there is no way to give anyone a logical argument about why their spoiled child deserves a Mercedes 300 C over a hungry 3 year old. Sorry I guess I am Anti American and Anti Capitalist.

In theory a republic. A country in which the people elect representatives to conduct the government as the people wish it to be conducted.
In a pure democracy, the majority rules, and minority opinions are discarded.
The government of the U.S. is based very heavily on the system of government that American Indians used in the northeast. The American form of a democratic republic was/is regarded with fear by royalty, would-be royalty and despots.
We have been loosing the benefits of liberty bestowed by the democratic republic envisioned by the founding patriots at an accelerated rate for at least a hundred years.
We need to follow George Washington's advice to "Love your country but fear your government".
The backbone of our republic is the Constitution. And many of us when we served in the military, in public service or public office, swore an oath as each president does to "Preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States of America from all enemies, foreign and domestic." That is why when any public official disregards the Constitution they are guilty of perjury and perhaps treason, no matter who they may be and no matter whether or not they are called to justice for it.
I hope that helps a little.

It is a democracy. However, it has devolved into basically a 2 party system that is more about the parties keeping themselves in power, and less about doing what is right. The party who gets the most money from special interests seems to have the edge. Our democracy isn't working because the citizens aren't doing their job. Instead of trying to make their own informed decisions at the ballot box, they vote for the party they worship, or who their church or union tells them to, or for the name they recognize on the ballot. Some people even listen to all the misleading negative crap that we get bombarded with through the media. It won't get any better until the people step up and take responsibility for their government. We are a government of the people, by the people, and for the people. That means that we are in charge. We need to take charge and do our part. Only then will the democracy we formed finally take it's intended shape.
