Times have changed so much! It used to be that halloween was a spooky night, full moon, scary trees (no leaves), ghosts and goblins, witches, jack-o-lanterns, scarecrows, ghost stories and such. Now, it's spiderman, princesses, ninja turtles, Barney, etc.. When and why did things change so much? Aren't we still supposed to make the demons think we're one of them so they don't "get" us?

You should see my yard for Halloween, a graveyard filled with grim reapers, witches, a fog machine, strob lights, tombstones, etc.. It's so scary, the kids are afraid to enter, but they love it!

Yes! Oh if I could reach through this screen I would kiss you. Yes, we have let our beloved Halloween go the way of Christmas: a long fast slide into Wal-Mart. Halloween is a night of mystery. It is that luminous magical moment when life and death are recognized as the twin realities of all life. It is a night of summoning up the things that go bump in the night. Oh I miss it, especially since I am one of its biggest celebrants. Thank you for asking this and you can come over to my spooky old house anytime for a treat.

Halloween has turned into a night where little children are being exploited, hurt, and a night were irresponsible adults are plotting on children.....It used to be a night of going into the neighborhoods and collecting your candy, homemade popcorn balls, cookies, pennies, and other traditional treats.
Ghost, vampires, cowboys, witches, and other HOMEMADE costumes were out and about in the day; not Barney, Batman, Hulk Hogan, and other store bought costumes.
Things have changed so much that I do not even celebrate it anymore; frankly I hate the holiday and wish it would go away like the dinosaurs did. The kids can not go from neighborhoods to neighborhoods, they can only go to people they know or some community gathering....this truly sucks......so to those who are still hanging on to this holiday...I say good on ya!!!! I unfortunately am not....I have knuckled under to the ones that have ruined it for all of us......

I LOVE the traditional Halloween. If you just look for it, you'll find it. Just don't make Halloween TOO Autumn like or too modern. Make it scary with lights, pumpkins, and massive decorations, like you have. Since you are at your house the most, if you see all those decorations each day, you will feel like you are in a society where it still is the traditional Halloween.

Some people have turned it into a satanic thing. People forget that it's all about dressing up and having fun. People have turned it into something bad and it's not a bad holiday. People want to believe that if you dress up as a witch for trick or treating when you're 5, you'll grow up to a be a devil worshiper....which is just ridiculous!

Part of it is that Christians have had a bit of a spiritual awakening and have stopped supporting a tradition that honors evil. I do not celebrate Halloween. The other thing is that there are a lot of sick twisted people that use the day to prey upon children, through abduction or lethal/poisonous treats. Many parents without spiritual objection are scared to let their kids out in public that night.

Halloween just isn't as much fun to a lot of people as it used to be.

Kids can't even "trick or treat" anymore. Too many mean people out there. I miss the good old days, too.
