If you are talking about tulle or net ballet skirts, you might want to pick a first project with an easier fabric ;-) I've been sewing over 40 years and tulle is a ****** to sew on unless you know the tricks.

If you are talking about wrap-around warm up skirts that dancers wear for practice, that's a great idea. Cotton or cotton/poly jersey is washable and easy to run through the machine.

It also drapes well and will look good.

that is no longer difficult and various exciting. Ballet skirt is a sturdy place to initiate. that is no longer very complicated piece of clothing, and you will no longer waste diverse fabric in case you don't get it suitable the 1st time. yet as quickly as you acquire it, all your dance clothing may well be custom made, and you grow to be your guy or woman dressmaker. while people take sewing instructions, skirt in fact is unquestionably considered one of the 1st assignments by way of fact they are especially ordinary to make. skinny fabric is extra durable to paintings with, yet you could no longer %. cotton for ballet. So that's going to be extra durable. while choosing fabric, discover something that would not fall down on the sting too lots, or that's going to be much extra durable. you're able to to think approximately making something out of cotton first, purely for practice and easily to get the assumption. that's achieveable to stitch it by making use of hand, whether it demands diverse practice to do a sturdy job with it. that's extra effective in case you could borrow a sewing gadget. I make maximum of my ballroom costumes myself, even the attire for usual that are long and have comprehensive skirt and geared up bodice and various rhinestones. sturdy e book is "Patternmaking for Fasion layout." It tells you the thank you to take your measurements and the thank you to construct a development out of them. For an ordinary wrap-around skirt, you do no longer choose this fancy e book nevertheless. sturdy success and have exciting with it.

i had my mom sew one up as a gag gift for someone - it was super easy... i was still uneasy about using her sewing machine because i kinda had blown up the last one... oops.
but you can make it super easy with double up tulle and a ribbon, or i'm sure you can figure out nicer ones. like i said, it was a gag gift so we made it super easy.
