October- often windy, but pretty mild.
November- temperature starts to drop, but not by much. Often rainy.
December- like November but more so. The odd cold day but nothing too bad. Snows rarely.
January- Winter starts for real...often cold, snows sometimes.
February- Even colder. The worst month...snow, rain, wind, the works.
March -first signs of spring, getting milder.

You can probably feel the temperature dropping in the evening in the outer suburbs of London now. The temperature during the day starts to drop in October, with January and February usually being the coldest months. It's start to warm up in April.

Hi, Coldest months feel like Dec, Jan & Feb....You have to start wearing a coat in about 6 weeks. London gets so cold, bitter! But it often only snows lightly and won't settle for long.

It will get cold in October, getting colder until December. Between January and March it will be really cold, with the March winds making it worse. April is traditionally slightly warmer, but wet. May is when we start to see the sun again, but it'll still be too cold for t-shirts.

Well it usually starts to get coldish during November but the really cold months are January but particularly February. Obviously I can't predict the weather that far in advance but going on past years thats how it normally works.

Buy it whenever, the weather will start changing soon - you might find you need it one day and not the next! Best to be prepared with British weather. There'll be more choice in the shops now, too, as new collections for winter start coming in.

Define 'really cold'. To someone from the desert August probably feels really cold.
