It's a tough question since Clapton's breadth of work is so much larger, Hendrix is much smaller for obvious reasons.
But I've gotta go with Hendrix. Hearing what the man could do live, it isn't like you are listening to the guitar just some other wonderful world.

both are awesome. and for the first person that answered this question with> (Clapton cos he sings) you obviously don't know anything about Jimi Hendrix!!!! he sang all of his own songs.. and as far as musically i like alot of Clapton's stuff but i think jimi"s playing is more intricate and complex Jimi"s playing is hard to copy. not to insult Clapton but i think his music is easier to learn on guitar. another interesting fact or question is why do they call Eric Clapton slowhand?

Hendrix because he ROCKS. Clapton is boring as shite. Not many artists cause me to turn the radio off, but Clapton's one of them.

Clapton as he is a Legend! I love the song he wrote for his child that died I think it's called tears in heaven. One of my favourite songs!
