You could make some extra money selling Avon. Yes, you will get a discount on what you buy, which is an extra plus. You will need to give your friends a book and leave some in the lounges at dorms, as well as give some to your friends and family back home. I don't know for sure if you could make a living on this, but it is worth the effort to try and find out. My mother sold Avon and she loved the perks of buying what she liked at a cheap price, but she did not make much money from it. A lady in my home town sells it and does really well. She leaves books door to door and gains new clients by word of mouth. Leaving books at salons and regular schools is also a good idea.
My friend sells Mary Kay and she makes a 50% profit from her sales and she is getting a car soon. I know that you can do pretty well selling that because it is also a well-known product that many people like. Maybe you could sell both, since Avon has many other items besides make-up. You could make more money that way.

Hi KelBean,
I had just taken a look at Yahoo Answers for the first time and in thumbing through the questions your's caught my eye. Career wise I am personally involved with direct sales and access marketing and I often do come across people who are involved or just beginning to get involved with Avon. This shows personal drive and ambition and is an absolutely great thing because it can lead down a path where you'll find an opportunity where you can achieve financial freedom. As for making a living, decent or otherwise, with any opportunity the answer lies in how hard a person is willing to work, grow, and learn, a person's success is not reflective on the company they join or determined by what other people have done or haven't done with any opportunity. In my personal experience, everyone I've ever met who sells Avon is still working a daytime job. I haven't met anyone, yet, who was able to make a living selling Avon full-time. I looked at their website and it appears Avon gives you a choice between pocketing profits or using them for a discount on your own items. Cosmetics are considered consumable products and this is good because it means you will have customers coming back to buy more once they are used up. This is good because some other companies have people selling knives or gym sets, which can only be sold to someone maybe once or twice in their life, therefore there is not the repeat business that consumable products offer. However, there are a couple of downsides to Avon: One of them is that Avon products irritate some people's skin. I have met a couple dozen women who can't use Avon products because they irritate or otherwise create a reaction to their skin. The other downside to Avon is that Avon does not build what is referred to as residual income, where a person is eventually able to quit working altogether and still receive a larger and larger check every month. Avon reps only earn retail profits which means that if they stop working their income stops, this is why everyone I've ever met who sells Avon still has to work a 9 to 5 job. Bottom line: Avon is good for pocket change. The best opportunities are those that allow a person to earn retail profits, money from bonus pools, and to build residual income all with the same efforts. I am involved with such an opportunity and after about six months I was able to quit my job. KelBean, if you or anyone else out there wants to learn more please give me a call at (347)534-9600 and leave your name and number so I can call you back. Good luck and best wishes.
~~ James

I sell Avon and I think it is a good idea for a college student. You can work on it on your own schedule so it is a somewhat flexible way to spend your "work time". Your disount changes with the $ amount of your order, but demos and samples are also available at a good discount. Be sure to market to everyone in the community, not just college students. The price of the products that you will be selling should be attractive to college students since theitems are generally less expensive than department store products and often less that drug store/discount store brands as well.
Best advice to you is to be sure to get at least 1/2 of the money up front for any order that you take, the balance due at delivery, otherwise you will be surprised how many people will change their mind and try to cancel their order when you try to deliver. I only extend credit to those people that I know and have bought from me before with no trouble (family, friends, co workers, neighbors etc).
If you are trying to supplement your income Avon can work for you. But probably not a good idea as an only source of income.

I've been selling for while. First you will get a discount. you will get a preview book every campaign this has great discounts on items that aren't in the books yet. The discounts are also based on how much you sell. Second you can make a good living at it by you have to do some really work. It's hard at times but you will love the benefits.
Good luck and feel free to E-mail if you want any suggestions

Depending on your motivation, it can either be a hobby or extra spending money, or a living. I think you need to have a lot of movtivation though to make a living out of avon. Just get out there, go to stores and banks, ask if you can leave the catalouges at different places. Hand out business cards when you run into people, and promote, promote, promote the product. Good luck.

its ok if u just want a little extra cash, i dont know about the discount.
i have a few friends that tried it, and unless you have a really large group of friends and alot ppl that are willing to buy it, you wont make enough cash to make rent and bills if thats what you are trying to do. Because your % that you make is very small.

well you have to direct market to a population that has unstable cash flows. but i think that if you did it right you could make a little money at it but not sure if it would be a constant thing. also not sure how expensive avon is compared to other brands that you could grab at the store.

If you can get the clients it is. You'll get lots of promotional items...maybe not a lot of big money but you get a cut of the share. I knew a woman who did that "on the side" of her regular job and she must have done well as she did it for years. I doubt you get rich by it but it probably earns you a modest part time income.
