Here is what I would do.
- Uninstall AOL through the ADD/REMOVE Programs section of the Control Panel.
- Reboot
- After it starts up completely, REBOOT again.
- check the Add/Remove Programs section again, to be sure that AOL is GONE
- insert the AOL disk and begin the installation AGAIN Then REBOOT
If this does not work, using the double reboot feature, then you might have SPYWARE or Viruses. Use your anti-virus program to get updates and run a full scan. You should have an anti-spyware solution on your computer. I recommend that you go to http://www.download.com and get AD-AWARE and SpyBot Search & Destory. Install, run, update and scan your computer with both programs.
With the spyware and viruses checked, deleted and cleanup, try my procedure from the beginning again.
