I'm manic-depressive. I wear my sunglasses to cover runny makeup from crying, to hide dark circles from crying/rubbing my eyes/insomnia, to cover up my anxiety when I'm depressed, and also for other people's comfort - I can't always hide in my bedroom & people feel uncomfortable and tense when they observe someone crying in public. People generally want to help me if I'm seen crying, but they don't know how or if they should approach me, or if they are invading my privacy. If they turn away from me, they behave as if guilty of something and typically dissapointed w/themselves. My sunglasses also make me feel protected, hidden or invisible to others when feeling like this, and this gives me a sense of safety & control of myself when I'm really feeling out of control.

Because eyes are the windows to our souls, and reveal how we are feeling. Sometimes when you are sad you just want to be left alone and not have everybody asking 'what's wrong?'
