Its because in the USA the players aren't quite as skilled as in the rest of the world. This is through no fault of their own they just haven't been playing it for as long. In South America and Europe and other parts of the world there are numerous players who are true athletes. In the USA they aren't really used to a sport where people have to run for a full 90 minutes with only a 15 break or even worse in a cup match. They are used to sports that have time outs or breaks every 15 minutes to fit in with television commercials and other such nonsense. It will take time but I am sure they will get there in the end.
Also a word to the wise... Anyone who uses the accusation of something being GAY as an answer really isn't worth listening to. Maybe when they learn to construct a proper argument for something they will be but till then just ignore.

Soccer is a boring and GAY sport no matter where it is played! The only reason it is more exciting in Europe is because the fans are european and have nothing else in their lives. Sadly. . .going to a soccer game IS their lives!!! The drunken low IQ hooligans in the stands provide more entertainment than the games! At least there is some action in the stands as these cro magnon fans get drunk, yell, swear, fight, and throw things at each other. The average European soccer fan has an IQ of just over 73! This and the massive alcohol consumption creates a volatile atmospher in the stands. Even European soccer fans are soo bored after ten minutes of watching a bunch of wussies run around and kick each other. . . . that they inevitably start to fight! I would rather watch two tourtoises hump at the zoo than watch a soccer match.

football played by americans tends to be boring because the us game lacks skill in comparison to the european game. look at the american players who make it into a european league and manage to stay there. they are few and far between because most american players just don't have the technical skills or stamina to compete with a european player on an equal playing field. the same applies for the south american game, btw, and more and more for africa. einstein - may i ask where you got that wisdom from?

Watch some women soccer in the US.
They can kick France and Italy's ***.
Even Canada is in the running.
I wonder what Einstein's IQ is...

From what I've seen, soccer (or football if you prefer) is much more competitive in Europe than it is here in the US.

Because they are more into it than america. America is about football (ugh) and baseball. Don't like either of them, but everyone else likes it.
