Lots. The books has inconsistencies, bad English, are pretty uneducational, and lack positive character development. Many who don't like the books don't know all these things but I read enough of the books to find out.

I like Harry Potter and I am definitely grown up and I know a lot about literature. I dont think Harry will ever be seriously compared with Hamlet or other great literature, but it is fun and amusing, filled with creative images and little friendly parodies of teenage life. I have read all the books and seen the movies and I look forward to the next step in the story.
One of the fun things about 21st century life is the HUGE amount of literature, music and cinema that is readily available to everyone. And there are all kinds of authors and creative people who, because of the way we can spread things around, can find a market for their art. IT used to be just vanilla and chocolate and now we have 34 million flavors of story telling!

I am a grownup and could never get into a series like Harry Potter now, as I couldn't get into the "Hobbit" and those "Ring Trillogy" books when I was growing up. By the way, my friends then loved the "Lord of the Rings" and my grownup friends adore Harry Potter, so go figure! Guess I'm just becoming an old fuddy-duddy.

Me. I try to be my own person and not follow the crowd, and I refused to read them just because they were so popular. In fact, it was a point of pride for me to say I had never read HP, that is until I broke down and read the first one out of shear curiosity . It was okay. Certainly not on par with any of the classics, Dickens, Bronte, etc., but I was nevertheless entertained for about eight hours despite my prejudice.

I've got nothing against him or Rowling, but this whole craze is really getting on my nerves. Some people are even claiming it's among the best literature ever written, as in on par with Dostoevsky and Shakespeare, PLEASE!!!
On the plus side, it is getting a lot of young people to read.

Why care who doesn't like a book? If you liked a book and a million other people didn't, it does not change a thing.
