Is this in an algebraic form? I got this wrong on a test, and somehow I came up with -16.08 . Problem is, this test was 4 weeks ago, and I did not show my work. What did I do wrong?

Well u just did a very silly and basic mistake. In algebra minus-minus become plus. Therefore in ur sum the ans should come 1.92.

-7.08 - (-9) = -7.08 + 9 = 1.92.

You can confirm this by using Ms Excel worksheet. There in a cell u type: = (-7.08 - (-9)) like this only and press enter u will get the correct ans.

Ok buddy.

Enjoy Maths.

when you subtract a negative number you are actually adding it.
So what you should do is:

-7.08 - (-9) = -7.08 + 9 = 9 -7.08 = 1.92

- 7.08 + 9 =1.92

when a negative ( - ) sign precedes the parenthesis all signs change from - to +
