It is said immersion is the best way.
Can you keep company with people speaking English? Have them speak in simple sentences, showing you subtle differences in word choice so your understanding (comprehension) will deepen. They can share observations with you ("look, there is a broken window", "wow, that's a beautiful person!", "how sad, what great misfortune"), and ask you questions to answer. Listen to the BBC radio broadcast, and see if you can find an educational station where English is spoken without a lot of slang or fanfare (excitement). Also consider a popular music station to observe language from.
Can you enjoy an English movie? Perhaps one you've seen in your language? How about one from your language with the English to read at the bottom (subtitled)?
The newspaper is said to be written for an 8th grade comprehension. However, younger children can read it with limited understanding, and many adults have NO idea what some of the words mean.
I like to help Spanish (and other) speakers with their English. I like them to try to forget their shyness and be bold and just speak with the fun spirit we used when we all were children, not too stuck on concern over accuracy.
You may tell any English speaker that you're learning the language, and ask, "will you help me?" You'll make new friends who right away know how to show their friendship to you. Those not helpful - - - it's good to know who they are, too, and let them go on their way.
Many best wishes to you. Hey, what is your native tongue?

The best method is to go to a country where the language is spoken for a few months.

Total immersion, such as living in that culture and speaking nothing but that language.
