Make it interesting. Most students will have relatives that will remember events that happened in the 50s, 60s, 70s, etc. Have them interview a relative on the Cuban Missile Crisis or something like that.

Pretend that they are the reporter for some of those events. Do group projects that involve everybody. Make it relevant to them. Why should they learn about the wars and the people?

Use Power Point Presentations. Have students research a topic and make power points using pictures, facts, etc. It's an easy way to avoid the overused essay.

Have your students put on a play about a certain time in history. They love to dress up and act things out. Besides, what better way of understanding people of a certain point in time than having to put yourself in their shoes?

This would be from 1900 CE to 1999 CE. Okay, make it as interesting as possible, bring costume clothing to the class, videos on certain decades, and things like that.
