Stick it in the refrigerator.It will keep for up to 5 days if refrigerated.

Don't carve it too early. They will last longer in colder weather and keep it out of the sun. I live in New England and the weather can be weird. Some years it is 75 degrees near Halloween and other times in the 40's. I never carve until a day or 2 before Halloween.

Wrap it up and keep it in the fridge when not in use. If you don't want to be hauling the thing in and out once it's done, put a thin layer of Vaseline on the cuts to slow the wilting process.
Another fun tip (not that it matters if you put them outside), sprinkle cinnamon and nutmeg (or just pumpkin pie spice) on the inside of the lid and it'll smell like pumpkin pie when it warms up in the candle flame.
