It's from the Greek myth of King Midas, who wished for everything he touched to turn to gold.It is a story to show that most people don't think about the long term consequenses of their actions.

You should always becareful about what you wish for, because you will always get what you want. A lot of us have wished for something and we don't know we received it, because it wasn't what we really wanted, we weren't specific enough.
Never ask to be rich, instead ask for financial security through your own efforts and getting it through a happy, pleasant career.
Don't ask to meet the best guy, girl, in the world to share your life with, because whatever it is that doles out the wishes might think he's the pope or mother Teresa! So be specific. Write it down and read it everyday.
You'll be surprised about the results!
Always include that no one is injured and happines will be included.

Yeah on an identical time as i become a baby i wanted to be grown up and as i wanted it befell additionally and happende very rapid. I can give you a perfect example. My niece was stuck with a 5 year note on a lemon of a car she wished daily to total it without being hurt. SHE DID !!!!! Had she only wished to total it she may have died in crash

To me it means you may think what you know what you want then you wish for it and get it, then you realize it wasn't at all what you expected and it wrecks a part of your life rather than help it.

I have heard of it but dont know where it started. Yes it has happened to me. I wished for something and got it. It wasnt what I had hoped for.
