My nephew joined the Marines 20th July 06. Now his family state they will not vote for the Republicans because their son is now in danger. So this goes to show me how repuklicans think. As long as other sons die in the war they are all for the war. If their son is in danger they turn agaist their own party. Idiots!!

Once again, this isn't a QUESTION... its a STATEMENT. It's your reaction to your family's position.

My parents were registered republicans... but voted their minds... both picked Senator Feinstien each time she ran yet voted Reagan, Bush, Dole, & Bush. Local politics was never voted by party... Oh, and we live in California: home of liberal thought.

Both my lil brother & I served in the Navy during the first Gulf War... amusingly, both of us were wounded (him in a small-boat during the fake-invasion, me in my helicopter). Brother left the service in 1994, myself in 1998... but I got called back for Kosovo, and briefly post-9/11.

We're still registered Republican, and vote our minds... as well as serve via the USO, American Legion, and VFW.

Sorry that he's a Marine... just kidding... a little intra-service joking.

Semper Fidelis Jarhead Nephew, and keep your butt low.

Sometimes understanding only comes through a trial of pain.

Perhaps your family suddenly realized that they love your nephew more than they love a political ideology.

pretty hypocritical, but isn't that a prerequisite for any political affiliation?
I am sorry they feel that way, I hope they can at least support their son! I do! Next time you talk/write/email..thank him, tell him to come home safe!

That is an absurd reaction and you have every right to feel that way. I assure you, that is not how all Republicans think, however. They should be proud of their son and his desire to serve more than himself-- his country and all of those who enjoy freedom.

Whatever happened to parents accepting the wishes of their children instead of wallering in self pity because they can no longer live vicariously through them? There is no shame in wanting to serve your country. In fact, he is to be commended for his bravery, both on the warfield and in his own home.

This is not how republicans think, that is how that goofy family thinks? Does any one use the brain that god gave them anymore? You are the idiot.

I am not sure whether it is right or wrong. But the urge of parents to protect their children is understandable.

You are painting republicans with the same brush, just because that is your family's reaction doesn't mean every republican thinks the way they do. right?

No, not all Republicans, but if your family members are as ignorant and stupid as you are, I can see them doing this!
