Robi is commonly recommended for fertility because it can improve the quality of cervical mucus (CM).

To conceive, you need for your CM to be plentiful, watery, and slippery (like egg white, so it's called EWCM). CM will become EWCM around ovulation, and will be thick and sticky the rest of the month. Many women have trouble conceiving because of poor CM quality at the time of ovulation. Drinking a lot of water will help if you have poor CM.

Guaifenesin (the ingredient people are talking about when they mention Robitussin for fertility) is an expectorant, in other words it loosens mucus and phlegm so you can cough it up. Guaifenesin will improve CM quality for the same reason, it makes it thinner and runnier.

If you take Guaifenesin to improve CM, *don't* go gulping down a bunch of Robitussin. a) Of all the different varieties of Robi, there doesn't seem to be one that has Guaifenesin as the only active ingredient, b) Guaifenesin is not even in most kinds of Robi at all, and c) Some ingredients used in some varieties of Robi are associated with birth defects.

Not to mention it tastes horrible and is expensive.

Instead, buy plain Guaifenesin tablets which are now available over the counter. Originally people bought Robi to get Guaifenesin because plain Guaifenesin wasn't available over the counter.

Hope that helps,
Maureen

I just started taking the Robitussin yesterday and last night I felt a watery sensation like it was working (thinning out the CM)...sure enough this morning, I had lot's of Egg White CM. Don't know if it was a coincidence, but i've never had that happen before. Needless to say, i'm excited about it. Give it a shot. It won't harm you.

It thins out cervical mucous, making it easier for sperm to swim in. A friend of mine was suggested by her doctor to take cough medicine that contained Robitussin and she got pregnant. Didn't know how much she took it.
My obgyn gave me pills that acts like robitussin, don't remember the brand. You can ask your doctor.
Good luck

The only way for you to know when you are ovulating is to take your basal body temp each morn, same time and before you get up. You should see a pattern in temps that leads up to and after ovulation. You can get the basal thermometer at Wal-Mart for about 8 dollars. I use a wonderful FREE website called Fertilityfriend.com...it graphs your temps for you, keeps track of your fertility signs, tells you when you ovulate and also tells you if there is an implantation dip in your temps. You can also use Ovulation prediction kits, but they only measure your LH surge and give you a ball park time for ovulation...they do not pin point it. Oh, and it is possible to be ovulating while you do not have your period, just like it is possible to have a period and not ovulate.

I have never, ever heard Robitussin used as a method to help someone conceive. Definatley ask your doctor, I have a funny feeling he wouldn't recommend it either.

I don't know about consuming things that can help with conceiving, but what I do know, during sex, put a pillow underneath your back to arch your back, and also, sex with your legs u at a certain angle (in which I do not know) helps as well. This was recommended to me, although, I really wasn't trying to conceive, just came up in a conversation, who knows, just might work. Try googling that question...Good Luck

I have heard of that it thins out the cervical mucous from what I have heard. I don't know if I would try that or not myself. But TTC a few days before, and every other day after. Good luck.

Give it a try. It can't hurt!

Never heard that before, but who knows. Have him eat lots of foods that increase sperm production, and only have sex once or twice a day so his body can keep up and produce a good amout of sperm.

Have lots of unprotected sex during the period in which you ovulate.

I don't think Robitussin does anything but relieve a sore throat.
