In HS I read a short story that took place in WWII Italy. The story centered around four women that were traveling together and talking about their sons and their various stances and positions in war. The last woman's son died, but she was proud of it. In the end however, you could tell that she was really torn up about losing her son.

I thought the title was "The War", but that dosen't seem to be it. I also think that the story was written in Italy... maybe it was translated from Italian? I read it for a world literature class.

Has anybody ever read this short story? I'd just like to read it again. Thanks!

I think the author was Pirandello. Don't know the title, but it would have been written in Italian. Might have been WWI not II.
