For the two points.
But the problem there is that responding with a poor answer only for the two points decreases the chance that they'll get a Best Answer.
It slows down their point advancement, and reduces their Best Answer to Answer ratio.
Best answers help to move you up a lot faster.
For what that's worth.
But some of the answers are fun, and clever, and will make you laugh, even if they obviously don't know the one you're looking for. I posted a silly question last night, and some of the answers were so funny, I laughed until I choked!
So, let 'em have their fun.

Good question, but there are probably different reasons for different people. Some simply want points to advance to the next level, some are very young and are just trying to get noticed. I am also convinced some people have trouble finding the "back" button on their computers. The ones with insults are clearly immature and have nothing better to do with their time and energy. I guess it is a better outlet for teenagers than running around making babies.
It is a little frustrating at times, though, isn't it? It helps once you develop a little thicker skin, and can ignore those people thoroughly without thinking about them at all.

People think that these "points" are actually worth something. So, they will answer every question that they come across to get the "points" that will eventually get them to the highest level where they will receive the privilege of continuing to do the exact same thing they have been doing the whole time before.

My husband ALWAYS answers a question. He gives his opinion (not necessarily a correct one). He is trying to be helpful. Of course, until I knew that I always believed him and it took me a while to realize what he was doing.
Sarcastic people are just entertaining themselves and some others are just mean, mean people.

They want the points and cheat the system. It's all in fun and a way to learn and help others out but there are those who just can't help themselves. They are probably adolescences who think they are cool.

I feel that they are showing a young mentlity or that they don't really care about others or how they feel. There are also those others that just try to ruin it for the rest of us.

People LOVE the sound of their own 'voice' and CANNOT shut up. They have no control over themselves.
