Twin girls in Western Canada have won their court case to play on the guy's hockey team.Is it right? They have insulted their old teammates on the girls team by calling their team a joke and may have done irrepairable damage to girls sports across Canada if the appeal is unsucessful. If teams will be able to have both sexes it will be just a matter of time before a girls team is going to bring in a guy or two to help them and then lookout. It will severly limit the opportunitys for girls as the guys will take most, if not all the spots.

if there was no girls hockey league at their school then i could see their point. but these 2 girls are from winnipeg where hockey is everywhere, even in rural manitoba every high school has a girls team. i watched an interview with these 2 girls this morning and they were retarded or something, in the 2 years that the court case was going on neither had played a full season, just pick-up and rec games here and there. it didn't even sound like they were very passionate about hockey, and they weren't very convincing.
if these girls were so good, they could play with other competive girls teams. there are triple 'a' teams, world joniors, etc. but scouts don't even know who they are.
the try outs were on last week and we will find out today if they make the cut. i hope they don't.

NO
Girls have girls teams, Guys have guys teams. These girls haven't even played hockey in the last 2 years. They have done irrepairable damage to there girls hockey team.
I know that if the girls get to play on the boys teams & they took a spot for one of my boys then what? Will all the boys that didn't make the cut going to go play for the girls teams & take the positions away from the girls?
I can already hear the uproar. "boys taking girls spot on hockey team, news @ 11"
Whats good for the goose is good for the gander.
Equal rights are all fine & dandy, but the equal right here is that there IS & WAS a girls team to play on.

In many places and sports, the guys team is given great equipment and access to the best facilities while the girls team has to make due with whatever they can come up with. By calling the girls' team a "joke", they could easily be referring to lack of equipment, coaching and rink time, obstacles that the boys don't have to face. This is a recurring theme in high school sports.

First yes! Yes women should play on the team they are qualified to play on. My team this year has 2 females.
I've watched the level of play drop off for female hockey players. When there was no women's teams those that played were always in the middle of the pack of the guys. Strong skaters smart players always in position and able to finish the play. Those females went off to play women's hockey and their skill level dropped going from playing AA to B, Sad. I'm glad more women are playing the game yet sad to see good players lose their skill. Soooo yes women's hockey (as much fun as it is ) is a "joke" as in not at the same level as the Boys. Let's go back oh 1992ish Women were on the verge of playing Major league as in NHL. Erin Whitten and Manon Rheaume were already playing pro and had played exhibition games for the NHL. Won't happen now women's hockey has brought down the level of play. But it has been fun.

Most schools don't have a seperate girls team for all sports. If a girl is capable of playing and wants to, then she should be allowed to. As far as harrassment from males on the team, I think that there should be either a female coach as well or a sensitivity training for the players

Well there is a reason there are guys and girls teams. There is a point to having teams for guys and girls so that they feel comfortable with each other. I wouldn't be suprised if she sued for sexual harassment in a month or two. If she called her girls team a joke she's just not a good team player. If she's so amazing she should help out her team to get better.

Saw this story and yeah they're a little audacious about calling their ex team a joke, that'll win em friends and influence enemies, but I don't think it's done ireparable harm to women's hockey or women's sports.

Some of the girls I went to hs with looked like they could have played for the boys teams and done well.

I think they should have the chance to play , if they have the skills required and the competency, but with the proviso they know they're playing with guys who are bigger than they and who could possibly do them alot of damage.

Will they make it to the big leagues with the boys , time will tell.

But I bet in five years time or longer we'll see them in the Canadian Women's hockey team competing in the Olympics.

H-e-double hockey sticks, yes!! I mean, why wouldn't it? Girls kick butt too. Some girls teams are jokes, some aren't. I am going to play on my high school team whether everyone disagrees or not. It is my high school years too. If a guy can play on the team, why can't a girl???? It has never made sense to me, and it never will unless someone gives me a very, very, very good reason.

If you disagree, email me. I bet my bottom dollar I can change your mind, unless of course you are as hardheaded as me.
