The original one was "Laughing/Laugh out Loud". But everybody uses it in a way of "Lots of Laughs" But some people use it as "Lots of Love". Also, some people using it use it as "Lack of laughter." Otherwise, "Little or lots." Take your own pick

It's original definition was "Laughing out loud" (also written occasionally as "Lots of Laughs"), used as a brief acronym to denote great amusement in chat conversations.
Now, it is overused to the point where nobody laughs out loud when they say it. In fact, they probably don't even give a **** about what you just wrote. More accurately, the acronym "lol" should be redefined as "Lack of laughter."

'Laugh Out Loud' or 'Laughing Out Loud.'
However it is more something that is said when there is nothing else worth saying. Similar to when someone might make a comment about something and you neither find it funny, interesting or informative.
