By "not putting it in an ice box," I assume you mean that you're ruling out any situation where you keep it below freezing, which of course is the obvious solution. For the record, though, you could keep ice frozen by storing it in a body of water that was frozen over, by cutting a hole in the ice and keeping your ice in a bag below the surface.

For other options, you'll pretty much have to keep the ice tightly insulated. If heat can't get to the ice, it won't melt. Wrap the ice in heavy layers of thick cloth, or put it in a cooler or other thermally insulated container designed to keep ice cold. The lifetime of the ice in its solid form will still be finite, but it will last longer than it would if simply placed in the open.

to prolong the life of ice add salt to the water mix before freezing,keep in a cool shady place wrapped up in a cloth should last a bit longer

waters boiling point changes at different atmospheric pressures. for example water boiles at approx 65 degrees farenheit under 28 inches of vaccume.so if you put ice under extreme positive pressure it should stay in a solid state at a much higher temperature.

depending on what your using it for,use dry ice....or try an ice chest!
