its really hard to keep them on the tracks until the train comes i have'nt came up with a sure fire method yet

That depends on what you want to train them for! For litter box training, all you have to do is take them to it a few times, scratch the litter with paws to give them the idea, and because cats are very intelligent, they soon learn. Also, keeping the boxes clean ensures that they will return to use them.
As far as obedience training, forget it, only dogs will allow themselves to be subjected to that.

A small squirt gun filled with cold water is usually a good way to get the message across when they're doing someting you'd prefer they didn't.

You tell them what to do, then they do whatever they want. I have trained them well.
