Ya.... Over priced and definitely not worth the money. I know a guy that owns a vacuum cleaner shop. He said they are not worth the money.

There is a filter and we clean ours once a year. We have not replaced it yet and we've owned the Dyson Animal for 2 years. It is hands down the best vacuum I've ever owned or used. All of the Dyson talk about not losing suction is true. It is one of the few things I own where I feel like I got the best end of the deal and not the company. I would still feel this way if it had cost $1000.

I have the Dyson Animal. It is 2 years old. I love it, but many people do not realize you do have to clean it or have it cleaned periocally. I clean my own, by taking apart the whole thing. You would be amazed how much dust is collected in the cyclones each month. I also detach and spray the hoses out, cut hair and fibers out of the brush, and clean the filter and let everything air dry for about a day or two. I find this is the best way to keep my Dyson in great working order. Yes, it is a lot of work but I recommend looking in the cyclones, you will be amazed!

I just saw a documentary on it. For one thing it's true
about the suction of a conventional vacuum cleaner
dropping off sharply after the first use with a new bag. And
as far as the initial greater expense of purchase, you will
make up for it in not having to buy bags over the lifetime
of the appliance. The reason Mr. Dyson could not get
any vacuum cleaner companies interested is because they
make so much money selling bags.
One day, vacuum cleaners that need bags will be a thing
of the past.

The Dyson Animal is a wonder worker - mine is over a year old now & still works like a dream. The filter should be taken out & rinsed twice a year in clean water & let dry overnight. I bought a spare so I never have to be w/o my Purple Hair Eater!

I own the purple Dyson Animal and have not found one bad thing about it. It's a GREAT machine and to keep up on the cleanliness of it, I often use our air compressor to clean it out. I haven't ever had to change the filter.
