if we ran out of oil rite now, economies all over the wold would collapse. not only would the trade of oil stop, but just about everything would. Oil is not only used as fuel; it is used to make other items like plastic.

Hopefully by the time we run out, the ethanol market will be growing. It would b a good alternative because it is a renuable source. Many car companies are allready creating cars that are compatable with gasoline.ethanol mixtures. Ehtanol is also better for the environment because it produces less harmful emissions. Another renuable source of energy we could look toward is solar power. The sun has an amazing amount of energy. Scientist have already found ways to harvest and utalize it. Hopefully before we run out of oil we will already be dependent on new forms of energy.

If we ran out of oil in the ground, the first thing that would happen is the US would open their reserves and HOPEFULLY mandate public transportation in all communities with a ban on driving private vehicles except under emergency conditions. The oil reserves will keep trucking and public vehicles running for years, but it won't stretch to private vehicles. By the time it runs out, we should have alternatives.

Unfortunately, the atmospheric damage might inspire these changes before the oil actually runs out. We are always finding new sources of oil. Unfortunately, the plant life of Earth has been sadly neglected and it is the plants that correct the atmospheric balance so life can exist here.

It would be the end of life as we know it. Ever thing from cars, trucks, trains and plains would roll to a stop in days. No food delivered to the stores. No way to get to work. Power plants would quit producing power, because they couldn't get any coal to power them. In days no food, no electricity, no water and no way to get medical help. If you look around you'll see that almost ever thing we depend on depends on oil. Due to the fact that the world is becoming more industrialized we'll probably run out of oil about 35 years from now.

steven and mousey have some decent anwsers, the other people are examples of the problem not the cure. You should read a book called "the end of oil", it has some good points in it.

The global economy would collapse. Mass starvation as food can't be transported fast enough. Probably war as nations who have are attacked by those without.

Generally it would be a mess.

In a way I wish that would happen. I think it would be madness for a while. The people would come up with something else.
That would help with global warming as well. YAY! Happy thought..
We would find a way!
