on girls under the age of 18. However in the cultures that practice this barbaric ritual, women, regardless of their age generally have no say in their lives, the men, be it their husbands or fathers, have all the say in what happens to them. Women have no recourse and most often times, no voice in these relationships. Don't you agree that the practice should be banned outright, completely from being performed on any female whatsoever? I think the us government is being very lax in their duty to prevent human rights violations in this case, not to mention many others, but I am only specifically talking about this one at the moment.

i understand, male mutilation is no better, the difference is that males have it done by a doctor in a sterile environment, with medicines, and women are held down in homes, by family members while a person, NOT a doctor, takes a knife or razor blade and slices their genitals off with out sterilization, or medication, than are left to heal by themselves, with no medical attention. Research your cultures, many of these women cannot stand up and say no, cannot prosecute the people who have done this. Americans can, many other cultures women are taught and beaten into beleiveing they can't.
