The gravitational mass of the moon is 1/80 the mass of the Eearth and the gravity field is 1/6 that of the Earth. The weight of a 180 lb astronauts would be 30 lb on the moon. The extra mass would come from his space gear.

Anyone's mass remains the same regardless of where he may be, but weight is caused by the pull of gravity. The moon is much smaller than the earth, so men are much lighter in weight on it. I weigh 320 pounds here on the surface of the earth. On the moon, I'd weigh about 53 pounds. On Jupiter, one would weigh much more than he would on Earth. There is a point in space between the earth and the Moon where their gravities counteract each other, and one weighs nothing there.

Mass is a measurement of how much matter is in an object. Your mass is the same no matter where you are.
Weight is a measurement of how hard gravity is pulling on an object. Your weight can change depending on how much gravity is acting on you at any given moment.

Your weight has to do with the force of gravity. The pull of gravity is not as strong on the moon as it is on earth. So you (in a way) weigh less.

im pretty sure their mass remains the same while their weight changes due to a lesser force of gravity (your mass is always the same--- your weight is merely the force of gravity times something (mass?) so it can change)

nothing happens to their mass. the certainly dont shrink. and all weight is on earth is gravitational pull....so if theres no gravity...theres no gravitational pull.
