i have a boot and a rear wiper..you are talking about saloon cars..its the way they are made

In general you find that the salon rear window is at a steeper angle and the way the airflow travels over the car tends to keep it clear from water. Some with slightly different aerodynamics do tend to get road spray onto them in which case the manufacturers will try to fit a wiper if the boot opening allows. Hatchbacks and estate cars seem to suffer from lots of spray hitting the rear screen so are in desperate need of a wiper in order to see what is behind.

The wiper motor is usualy found in the window section beside the lock ie hatch back but because of the hinges in the other types the wire cant run through as it will be to long for the earthing
Also all road cars have a boot back or front but i know what you ment lol...

theres 2 reasons:-

1] no space for wiper mechanism and in the way of open boot lid

2] in hatchbacks(where wipers at rear) more chance of dirt from rear tyres

There is at least one saloon car with a rear wiper fitted, it's a foreign make and it looks stupid and cheap.

The Mk5 Ford Escort Saloon does. It's probably because they have nowhere to put the wiper mechanism under the parcel shelf. It would probably be a pain to get to if it broke anyway.

In my opinion as the rear window doesn't open no need for one ,also for clear vision to the rear can be obtained via the side mirrors or the interior mirror, might also be a cost saving exercise
