Sad, Haunting airs and songs. Irish melodies have proved particularly efficient at the task. Best instruments for this effect seem to be the harp and the Scottish bagpipes.

Some of my best spine tinglers are the March of Brian Boru (especially the Clannad rendering) and such songs as "Oró Sé do Bheatha 'Bhaile" or "The Foggy Dew" (particularly the cover done by Sinéad O'Connor on the Chieftains album the Long Black Veil)

Sitting on the dock of the bay by otis redding
I think it is an amazing song but have no explanation for it!

Also, the piece of music played in titanic when the musicians play for the last time and the old couple are on the bed with the water gushing underneath them and the children being read a bedtime story! Makes me cry every time!

but a well placed solo does the job, few examples comfortably numb-pink floyd, the cowboy song-thin lizzy, asphalt world-suede

I would have to say Al Green, 'How do you mend a broken heart' especially. It's a tearjerker and spine tingler because it's true.

mine is by the calling, where ever you will go... when i first heard it i dedicated it to my Nana who died over 10 years ago i have also vowed to have this played at my funeral, now whenever i hear this song i get shivers, i don't know if that's a sign for me (which i hope not) but i like to believe its because she is close to me
