the first one means increase of 5 % of 100
the second one means "what 5% less" is 100
eg: if the cost price is 100, profit is 5%. selling price is 105
if the cost price is 105.26, loss is 5%, selling price is 100

100 + 5%= 100 + 5/100=100+1/20=
+2000/20+1/20=2001/20=100.05
100*5%+100=100*(5/100)+100=
=5+100=105

Funny, when I type in 100+5% I get 105. Are you sure you typed it in right?
Edit: Is that so m_s? It would appear that the exact operation of the % key differs substantially from calculator to calculator. I knew there was a reason I never used that key (besides the fact that everything you can do with the key you can do faster without it, and KNOW what result you're getting).

the 5% is probably of 1 , not 100 so 100 + (.26) = 105.26

100 + 5% is actually 100 + .05 right? so you just worded the 2nd part wrong. the way you have it, the answer is 100.05 The real way to word it would be (2nd part) 100 + 5% of 100 right? which would equal 105 as well. just how I look at it.

100 x 5% + 100
= (100 x 0.05) + 100
= 5 + 100
= 105
100 + 5%
= 100 + 0.05
= 100.05
This is my answer. I don't understand how you get the .26?

When I do the equation, I get 105 for both. Are you sure that you're typing in your digits right?
