I found this on wwwpoetry.com and submitted a poem. They sent me a letter stating they would publish the poem and I could buy the book, but didnt pressure me into the purchase. They also stated that they would still publish the poem if I did not buy the book. They also entered me into a sweepstakes drawing for $1,000.

Why would you buy a book where you will see your own poem? Don't you have it written somewhere?
The question is if the rest of the poems in the book are worth buying the book.
You don't really think that they will print thousands of copies spend money on advertising and sell it in the stores? They will just print enough copies for the writers.
They don't have to pressure anyone into the purchase. People's vanity does.

it's bull they tried the same thing with me. they just take random poems and put em in a book and then expect you to buy it and it must cost like 5 bucks to print the books and theyre asking you to pay like 25 or something thats a scam dont do it. thats like cutco all over again.

i believe that they do publish your poem but they do pressure you a lot to buy the book--of course, if you don't buy the book, you will never know if your poem is in it or not! (my brother has one of their books with one of his poems in it).

I've read heartbreaking stories about writers getting ripped off by poetry.com. Do a search on the internet and I think you will stay as far away from them as you can.

Sounds risky. Be careful.

If I pretend to sell you something and collect your credit card info then "I gotcha!"

This is a frequent scam technique. Check then out with someone like http://www.scambusters.org/

Have fun but be safe!
