the film is the oil and fat from the food also the turtles themselves produce oils on their skin. all turtle tanks will get this, you must use a underwater filter that keeps the surface moving at all times. not only will this help your problem but the turtles need that current to stay healthy.

Like others have said, the film is oils and stuff from waste, left over food, etc. Our red-eared slider had that all of the time, until we bought some feeder gold fish and put them in the tank. He was too little to eat them and now they are all great friends, but we have noticed that the fish keep the tank clean alot longer and also the film has diappeared. One thought on that, we do no feed the fish fish food, the only thing we put in there is the floating turtle food and the fish eat the extra and keep the tank clean. I don't know how big your turtle is or if he/she has ever been given live food before, but it might work for you too.

P.S. Before we got the 4 feeder fish, we were cleaning the tank every week, now we are cleaning it every 2 weeks and the water stays much clearer for much longer!

This is what all turtle keepers have to deal with. It is a film that is left over from bacteria breaking down waste in the tank. I have found that running the filter at "full throttle", as well as installing an aeration stone or wand helps the filter suck it up. The air wand I used, hooked to an air pump, sent up a fine curtain of bubbles that broke up the film. I had an Alligator Snapping Turtle that used to have this film all the time. You might have to change the water more frequently also.

that is purely the water flow. once I had a fish tank it might constantly bubble on the suited. It grow to be via water flow & filtering out the water to maintain it sparkling. it is punctiliously favourite. do not pay attention to the different man or woman. Your turtle will not die.

I get this from time to time too....I don't know what causes it, but I'd get a filter if you don't have one. It eventually goes away after a few days...(at least for me (or my turtle)).
