Assuming an automatic
first check for fluid. it has fluid up to fill line? good, what is the fluid like? reddish and smells a little like fresh toast? good. Black and definetly burn"t? bad. metal chips? bad.
Fluid good then shifter linkage everything connected? nothing looking out of adjustment? good. Electonic shift control? No wires torn off, no burned fuses? good. still not working? call a tow truck because you have a problem.
