I have installed a Linsky's card to the mother board but the set up disc will not run D drive to do it's thing. I know the drive is working.
Could it be the card is in the wrong plug on the motherboard or does something have to be done to the motherboard to accept the installed card. I was told it was a simple operation but it has been a nightmare so far. Can anyone steer me in the right direction to get it up and running? I have completed all the installation up to the reading of the setup disc. Please HELP?????

Make sure the Ethernet card is seated properly in the slot , push down gently to do this.
Start your pc this should pick it up as new hardware and give you the option to install the drivers put the cd with the drivers and software into the slot and let it install them

If not go to start, control, add hardware and try doing it that way

Try pushing the card harder into the motherboard. They can only fit one way and in only 1 slot on the motherboard regardless. Now when you turn on your computer, it should pop up a new hardware found. IF your running the minimal requirements, than all you need to do is put the CD in, and when the pop up on the screen from windows (if your running windows XP), it'll say Welcome To Hardware Update Wizard, just put not as this time on THAT screen... now on the hardware update wizard, It usually says "This Wizard helps you install software for: Linksys ethernet blahb lah blah" and then it'll say right after that, "If your hardware came with an installation CD or floppy disk, insert it now", and then there's options that say Install the software automatically, or install it from a list or specific location, do either,or. On the specific location, you can point into the CDROM itself, and into the folder on the cdrom that shows the driver for that specific windows. NOW if your not getting this pop up window, you'll need to manually go into the Start Menu, go to Control Panel, then to System, and then to Device Manager inside the System window. From there, you'll see your new ethernet cable (usually has yellow by it cause it's not working) and then you double click on the device, and do a reinstall driver, or install driver..... follow the above directions...

usually you run the setup disk before you install the card as if you install the card first windows has a habit of locking it out (as it doesn't recognise it) then the setup prog can't find it

Since you didn't say whether is is a wired or wireless adapter go to http://www.linksys.com and do a search for it. If it is a PCI device make sure it is plugged into a PCI slot on your system board.

Good Luck
