over the last couple of days i have noticed my right hand is swollen and very painfull, its not badly swollen but it seems to be getting more and more swollen as every day goes by, it also looks like something has bit me as i have 2 red spots which turn white when i try to scratch it as its very itchy, but at this point its getting far to sore to touch it never mind scratch it, i have no idea what it could be, i was in work a couple days ago and all of a sudden i felt light headed and kind of sick and my belly was in knots, it only lasted about an hour, does anyone think this could have something to do with whats wrong with my hand, or does anyone know anything about why my hand might be swollen and painfull

I'm sorry your in pain. It sounds like a spider bite to me, and your having a sever allergic reaction to it. All spiders are poisonous. Obviously some more than others. If you do not want to see a doctor, get some benedryl extra strength, that should work and if it doesn't get to a doctor and tell him you tried benedryl and the antihistamine is not working. Good luck.

I'm not sure they're connected, I'm guessing the swollen itchy hand is most likely to be an allergy to an insect bite if there are raised red spots, so try some antihistamine (cream or hayfever tablets). My better half reacts very badly to insect bites exactly like this. Ibuprofen (nurofen) is also good for reducing pain and swellings so unless you are asthmatic or have some other reason not to take them try those as well. You could also try dipping your hand in cold water or putting some ice cubes in a plastic bag on the swollen bit as that might relieve both the itching and the pain. If none of that helps and it's still getting worse or even just not better go and see your doctor tomorrow. I know it's hard but try not to scratch as it will make the itching worse in the long term and might lead to infection.

If at any point your hand starts to turn purple anywhere or your fingers feel colder than the other hand or you get abnormal sensations in your fingers like they are getting numb, or you develop blisters (especially if they come up quickly) go to A&E immediately. None of these are likely to happen, so don't worry, but they are signs that you might be getting damage to your hand from the swelling cutting off blood supply or an infection, so just keep a close eye on it.
