I'd call it Art Rock, same as what I'd class Pulp / Suede / Menswear et. al.

Franz Ferdinand are in no way along the same musical genre and Buzzcocks and The Stranglers.

FF are indie (As long as they are still on Domino or some other independant label) but then that's not much of a genre at all as it just means they're on an indie label. I'd say pop-rock/alt. They're quite popish with their hooks and beats/riffs. Alot of people would describe them as art rock but I don't know if I would really class that as a proper genre.

Why do you want to know anyway. Does it really matter?
