Just got a + sign, and Im so worried because it just so happens that this past month was crazier than usual for me with a period of 5 nights straight of drinking (vacation) plus 1 night of heavy binge drinking. Im so scared! Does anyone know how bad this could be?

Hmm don't stress too much because the deed is done now, just make sure it doesn't happen again from here on out. My doctor said that most women would not have consumed enough alcohol during those short weeks before you know you're pregnant to make a difference. But, it looks like you are aware that you did take a whole lot more than normal. I would say talk to your doctor and let her know that it happened. You won't know the effects until later, but at least she will be able to look out for the signs of any problems coming from it. Good luck.

Don't stress yourself over it now. Most likely everything will be ok. When did you get the positive sign, was it around the time you missed your period? The first 10 days (roughly) the baby is kind of just floating around and is not really recieving a lot of nutrients from your body (or other things you put into it) until it attaches, which is around your period time. If you drank during this time, it still isn't good but it most likely didn't effect the baby. Let your doctor know about the drinking, she/he will most likely relieve your mind. Many people drink before they know they are pregnant and they are fine. Just make sure that you aren't drinking at all now (which I'm sure you aren't since you are so concerned about.) Good luck :) I'm 11 weeks pregnant right now :) I'm having a hard time giving up caffeine, I just have to sneak in a sip or two of Dr. Pepper every once in awhile.

I had probably had a few beers before I realized I was pregnant, but I was never a really heavy drinker, so it wasn't many, darling. After I found out I was pregnant, I avoided alcohol for the most part, but I did have a glass and a half of champagne at New Year's. The offspring was born about six months after this wild binge...he was a day or two late, over 8 lbs., totally healthy. I nursed for over a year, so I also avoided alcohol during that time as well, except for one night when I had two glasses of red wine and two beers, but I threw my milk away for a day or two afterwards.

Yes it can affect the baby's neural development and can either cause brain developmental defects. Just make sure you're not drinking anymore. Good luck

It could alter the baby's brain and maybe the baby could be mentally retarded, or hopefully maybe, just maybe, it didn't falter anything!
