She wanted more moeny then they were willing to pay. I think it is a mistake that she is no longer on the show. She and Todd agreed at the end of the season to share custody of the baby. Joan missed the custody hearing but lynn saved the day with her speech.

Toni On Girlfriends

when the CW was formed by the WB and UPN it was unclear which shows would carry over so there was a some lag time between the end of last season and the usual start of production on some of the series, and I think i read somewhere that during that time she tried to negotiate for higher pay, but the CW being new did not want to start its life by giving raises to every one who asked especially when they dont know how long the shows would last. So, w/o a raise she decided to leave.

Also in the past when shows switch networks it also comes with Budget CUTS and perhaps star pay was one of those cuts.

so either way she wanted more money than the CW wanted to pay her, whether as a denied raise or as pay cut. that is what i heard/read somewhere

TRACEE ELLIS ROSS: Who Was The Boss? By Karu F. Daniels, AOL Black Voices Too bad Tracee Ellis Ross waited until her popular sitcom approached its seventh and final season before she started doing press. Shoot, we all would've realized that the gal actually had a lot to say. The star of 'Girlfriends' didn't mince words when explaining the departure of the show's co-star Jill Marie Jones. "The show is called Girlfriends, not Jill and Friends," Ellis Ross tells one of my favorite scribes Aliya S. King in the latest issue of 'Vibe Vixen' -- on newsstands now. The second born daughter of legendary music diva Diana Ross revealed she was stunned to learn of the news that Jones (a former Dallas Cowboys cheerleader who became a black household name via her starring role as materialistic, over the top real estate agent Toni Childs on the show) was leaving the show after contract negotiations broke down. "In order for the show to come back, the cast was not going to get the huge raises we dreamed of," Ellis Ross explained. "So when the calls went out the new contracts, Jill gave a quick 'no.' It was her decision." "Clearly, we all wanted to come back to Girlfriends as we know it. However, like anything, the show is bigger than one person." Ummmmm, you want to tell that to the other children of you mom's legendary music group The Supremes, Tray? Jones, who is currently shooting 'Perfect Christmas' with Queen Latifah, Terrence Howard, Gabrielle Union and Morris Chestnut, has remained mum on the subject. So far. Remember how everyone heard lurid tales about the backstage drama with the Motown super-group. And then decades later, Mary Wilson opened up a Pandora's Box with her best-selling memoir 'Dreamgirl: My Life as a Supreme.' I may be reaching a bit thinking that the Kelsey Grammar-produced series will have the same cultural relevance as The Supremes. But hey, it does make for an interesting coincidence. "I think I was mostly sad that after six years the call didn't come to me that said, 'Hey, I've decided to leave and this is what it's about," Ellis Ross added. "But the show will go on," she concluded on the subject. Let's hope. If Jill Marie Jones' departure on 'Girlfriends' leaves the same void that Star Jones Reynolds leaving 'The View' did, the beloved show will surely go out on a low note. And another thing: Why has 'Girlfriends' been on television for six years, and is shown in syndication several times a day (in some markets), but no seasons are available on DVD? I'm just asking. In any case, the new season of the show premiers on Oct. 1 at 8 p.m. on The CW Network.
