I found a 20 gallon fish tank at a thrift store for $7.99 canadian money. I was wondering if I bought this tank and bought the rest of the requirements for a freshwater aquarium, would it be cheaper than buying a whole set (starter kit) at a pet store of stores like Wal-Mart??

If it has a light canopy then I would say yes. But they can be the big expense when buying a tank.

It could be. When you get a kit you sometimes find that you have to upgrade things like the filter etc. If the canopy is included on the thrift deal make sure it works. The canopy can be expensive and hard to replace. Price things separately then check the deals.

That's a great deal, just make sure it is good quality and doesn't have any weak spots. I got my tank from my boyfriend and it was cheaper than buying a whole starter set. That week petsmart was having an aquarium sale and so I got my filter and all that for very cheap. If you are starting your first aquraium get a pet perks club from petsmart and it will svae you $.

my 10 gallon equipment got here from walmart for $40 yet have faith me 10 gallons is not any exciting if u get rather far into the activity. if u choose to have years of delight from a fish tank get a minimum of a 20 gallon. if u merely choose some thing thats small and not lots of a difficulty and is merely there for looks no longer for something intense like exhibiting or breeding then 10 gallons is high quality yet another place you may examine is craigslist ive seen tanks well worth a $one thousand for like $50 so checking there may well be well worth a while.

Wow thats a great deal!!! I'd first make sure it's water tight(you never know...) Walmart Canada has some good filters for pretty cheep, I like the wisper models they carry! Then you need a heater and gravel, temp gauge ect. So yes it'll definatly be cheeper, Unless you need a new canopy w/light, they can get quite pricey... My 55 gal's canopy broke and a new one is $200 cnd!!!!
