Fender Stratocaster (I have a 1973 sunburst with a maple neck) or
Gibson Les Paul
If your genre is country, a Fender Telecaster

Question entirely subjective. What do you want to do with it? What sounds do you most like and want to make?
I'd say Fender but that's just me. Look at what your heropes play, think aboutthe music you want to make, take as much as advice as you can, and then go for it.

Totally subjective. Close your eyes, play and listen. Then, if it feels good...buy it!! Don't be taken in by names. The name doesn't always mean it will be your choice or the best.

My mom has a Lowden guitar.( http://www.georgelowden.com/ )
Its not cheap, but it really sounds amazing.
Of course, Martins are even more expensive ( http://www.mguitar.com/ ) but are more famous. It all depends on what you want. I personally would go with the Lowden :)
