Commercialized? You bet. The girls on the fottballers' elbows are only after the money. But I'm more interested in the effects of commercialization on the sport.
Firstly, I would say that it has ruined football as it has sullied the spirit of the game. these days, the players no longer play for fun and pure LOVE of the game (although they still like it). It's all for the money. Now, they're all more concerned about winning than anything, because if they don't win, they'll be in trouble, their endorsements will fly away, so will the women, and not to mention their places on the starting eleven--which equates to less opportunities to play and show off their skills and earn more endorsements. i also think that due to the commercialization of the game, the players realize that they have so much more to lose if they don't win the game, and so they resort to more underhand measures as winning has become more important than sportsmanship.
Personally, I think that that's losing the point of the whole thing. Sports should be unadulterated, it's not like other types of work like being an administrator or a salesman in which people just work for the money. Whenever I watch a football game and see the smiling faces of the fans, my heart melts, but then I think about the dollar signs in the backs of the player's minds (can't blame them really), it freezes up again.
However, increasing commercialization also means a bigger carrot in front of the players. it's an incentive for them to try harder to outdo themselves.
Anyway, it's a short career in which the folks down on the pitch sweating it out are wearing out their tendons and knee-caps, they'll have to retire before they see 35 and start having arthritis at 40. I think that they deserve the money for their old age, as well as a kind of reward so that they'll have more than just memories to live on.
I guess it just depends on the attitudes of the players.

I never enjoyed football. But, objectively, yes, it has become too commercial. All the sport news are about football, and every one has a role-model as a football player. The best example its the Beckhams. They could have the same lifestyle, if he gave up football, because of their publicity and fame, which brings them a lot of money

Definately. When you ask someone who their favourite player is, they'll simply mention the most rich/famous, not the most skillful or defensive, etc. The beautiful game has indeed been ruined by all the fame and money and, eventually, their 15 minutes of fame will be over
