This is far too subjective a question...

Do you need email? A keyboard? Music? An organizer? A thin phone? a prepaid phone? a long battery life? do you need a headset? Cheap accesories?

First of all... Couldn't you have given a bit more specification as to WHAT do you need?

If you are looking for a PHONE, then go for Nokia's... they're normally sturdy, reliable, good-looking and their batteries last ages. Add a very intelligent set of menus and voila! You got yourself a phone that hardly will let you down.

SonyEricsson's are just as good as Nokia... they have an edge on cameras, lately and they tend to sound better (mainly because they really know their business from the Sony part) and they offer equally good menus and extras. Lately they have the best camera-phones on the market.

Samsung... I had a bad experience with a Samsung (D500), and therefore I might sound biased. I like the way they've upgraded their mobiles, and they still have (in my humble opinion) the most beautiful handsets in the market. Too bad that looks don't count much if you're trying to place a call and its reception is rubbish. The menus in my opinion are good, but have something to learn from the two above. Battery life is good, but not brilliant.

Motorolas... oh boy... I tend to think they're quirky and good-looking but again, you could spend minutes just trying to find one bloody function on the loads of menus and submenus making a complete *rse of yourself in front of your mates. No radio, no camera (that is worth mentioning) and in my opinion they're not as sturdy as one would expect.

LGs... Again, very nice on the outside, but a lot to learn as to how to use the menus and get to customise the phone for your own use. I think they're really nice and apparently they have a massive camera phone coming the on next few weeks. It might be worth to wait and see what they're up to.

PDAs... Sincerely, I have a PDA phone and if and only IF you are REALLY going to use all they have to offer (email, movie playing, internet browsing, and document editting and viewing) I would recommend somebody to have one. They're bulky, reception is normally below average, they're very sensitive and scratch/stain quite easily if not properly taken care of. Oh and before I forget mentioning, for a PDA, normally they're rubbish phones. I dropped using my PDA as a phone in favour of a nice SonyEricsson k750i because it has radio, good camera, excellent battery life, plays mp3s and is much smaller.

There you go. That being said, I hope you get to a decision.
Cheers!

Sony Ericssons and Samsungs are quite good- NEVER EVER buy a Motorolla, the camera, colour, graphics and overall performance is CRAP. Oh yes, we all may be wooed by the "HELLO MOTO!" trademark catchphrase, but don't give in!!!!!

Nokia N73 is good all round phone with all the latest features. samsung D900 is good option if you don't need 3G.
I'd stay away form sony ericsson as they have poor signal strength even in this day and age !
