I have been married 18 years and have 6 children. I have also gained alot of weight..a little more with each pregnancy. It can be very frustrating. It seemed the harder I tried, the more I gained. I tried diets, gyms, etc. About four months ago we, as a family, started eating healthier and smaller portions, walking a mile or two atleast every other day, and drinking lots of water. (I noticed the biggest difference cutting out tea, coffee, pop and drinking water). I have so far lost about 20 to 25 lbs. Its coming off slow, but I have been told that is the best way. It really helped getting the family involved. The last times I tried diets and exercise, I was doing it by myself and it was alot harder and didn't last. So I guess my advise would be...continue doing activities with your wife, if she needs to change eating habits, do it with her! and drink lots of water....Continue to support her when ever she needs it...that weight is so easy gain, but 10 times harder to lose! Good luck and tell your wife to hang in there.

Having that many children in that short a time does a number on a woman's body and hormones, If we are to be honest here, then lets just say that her losing and maintaining that loss has a 97% failure rate. Even if she loses the weight, she will never look the same.
You want real advice, unpopular though this may be? Here it is, You love her. Make her feel that you love her, pay her compliments on her appearance, gift her with a day at a spa. Hug her, kiss her, tell her shes a beautiful woman. Many heavy women are loved though those women may not appear on Oprah. No one is happy with being overweight there are too many issues involved, but we aren't all meant to be the same weight forever either. Strong and healthy are the key points. Five children love you both. Life isn't an Abercrombie and Fitch catalog.

Has she been checked for a thyroid problem yet? many women develope a small thyroid problem after having a few children....I've had three I have a thyroid problem now...and correct it with herbs.I also have a rule of thumb for lossing great weight...when shopping only shop "on the outside rows' of the grocery store..that be your fruit, veggies, meat ,cheeses, and whole grains. AVOID EVERYTHING IN THE CENTER ISLES. this is where all the 'processed food' is kept.

Unfortunately age and pregnancy can put the pounds on. Anxiety can make some people hang on to the weight. It sounds as if you are putting pressure on her to lose and making her feel unattractive. Ease up a bit, but invite her to go for a walk, buy a couple of bikes, offer to do some of the cooking and incorporate some healthier foods. Eat the same things she does and don't bring treats into the house to sabotage her efforts. She wants to look good for you!

i did the weight watcher thing and something about those meeting really helped. it wasn't just a video or a exercises class it was people talking about what going on with them..what works what doesn't..whats good whats gross. and you know you gotta pay that 12$ to weigh in and i never wanted to give 12$ and see less then a pound come off. plus you got to meet the people who hit goal weight see before and after pictures it was amazing and very motivating. its also an hour that gives her some "me time" get outta the house away from the kids and do something for her :)

She should really work with her primary care physician who can probably run some tests as well as recommend a good dietitian/nutritionist. Forgo the fad diets. All they're going to do is mess her metabolism up even more than it already is. I'm sure you both realize that this means some life changes for you both. Good luck and congratulations on being willing to be there for her!
