I recommend the Renaissance part of the Marriott group. It is in an excellent location and has some good deals if you go off-peak.

There are a few good hotels in Amsterdam:
- The Grand Sofitel - The Amstel Hotel - NH Krasnapolsy
In the first two hotels there is the change that you run into a celeb like the Rolling Stones, Robbie Williams and so on and so on

Hotel l' Europe really in the centre. Very good restaurant!
or maybe Hotel Okura, close to the centre. Very good restaurant also. But both not cheap.
Movie Stars stay at the Amstel hotel or at The Grand. The Grand is really in the centre, Amstel is close.
Not agreeable with your budget? Try the hotel Albert. 40 - 80

Well myself and some friends stayed in the youth hostel there over the summer and it was great. The building was a beautiful old school, opposite a nice park in the centre of the city and the staff were really helpful and nice. Maybe an option instead of a hotel
