Now that its getting colder outside we've started noticing that our pets have a slight flea problem. Well, we bought flea shampoo and bathed them throughly, then when they dried we put flea collars and that flea spread on them, and let them baCk into the house.
Well, since then, our downstairs living room has been INFESTED with fleas. And I'm not over exagerating either, I just walked down there and my feet turned black!
We've tried to mix flea shampoo and water in a spray bottle and get rid of them that way, we've tried bowls of water to trap them [whioch helped, but only pushed them back towards the laundry room].
The dogs dont go downstair, but still we cant go downthere either!!
HELP!

I had a pretty bad infestation once. Let my brother and his wife move in for awhile. They had two cats with no flea collars that started the trouble.
I used sort of a flea bath in a pump bottle to treat the cats. Directions said to spray animal until wet and let dry. Probably more effective than something you rinse off when dealing with a major infestation. The flea collars work well as a preventative measure I think. Never had a flea problem with animals that ALWAYS wore collars. May take some time to become effective though and maybe not enough for animals living in an infested house. I'd treat the animals again when you treat the house.
After trying a spray and powder that didn't work at all... I tried Raid Flea Spray. Very effective in getting rid of the fleas quickly. You have to spray liberally, pretty much everywhere (carpet, furniture, etc...). Fleas can live a good while in carpet and furniture without eating. Just spray VERY well and get out of the house an hour or two. Don't forget they're living in your vacuum bag. Spray it and toss it. Vacuum a few days later and spray a little more just to be sure. That will do the trick and be less of a hassle than flea-bombing your house. Can even be more effective because with the spray you can hit the undersides of furniture cushions, etc... Places a flea-bomb might miss...
You have probably already spread fleas throughout the house by walking in the bad area and more eggs will hatch shortly. Think the guy who said "wait it out" might be a little optimistic.

Sprinkle salt into your carpets and leave it down at least for a day. Vacuum it up and be sure to empty the bag right away.If the salt is left in the sweeper it will draw moister and cause rust. Then get a good brand of indoor spray and treat ever where you couldn't get the salt.Such as around the base boards and under things.I'd also suggest that you get several foggers that get rid of fleas also.We call em bug bombs.Follow the instructions and make sure nothing living is left in the house when you do it.I like to double up on the amount of cans they recommend. After you air out the house, vacuum again, and then regularly after wards.

REVOLUTION!! this stuff works you get it at your vets office they sell over the counter stuff that you can buy at like walmart but I have bad feelings about them? people use them and they work though so that would be up to you. All it is is a Little tube with liquid in it that you put on your dogs neck about halfway to the skin not just on the hair once a month GUARANTEED to ward off fleas and ticks! if an infestation does occur and you are following guidelines right revolution pays the bills! my dog is 7yrs old and to date have only found 1 flea on him (which didn't live long). as far as in the house you have that area quarantined which is good fleas can only live a very short time without warmth and blood too eat. just wait it out it won't take long

Go to TSC and buy Bronco Spray, it's like $5.00 for a large non-aerosol spray bottle. It's very good and you can also use it on dogs, not cats though. Also, there's stuff out called Fumigator and that's very powerful. Something like the bombs but much more effective. They also say that you can take moth balls and crush them into a granular and sprinkle them over your carpet indoors, leave it on there for about an hour and vacuum, it's supposed to kill infestations. It stinks I know, but they say it does the trick. I've had this problem before myself in thepast so I feel your pain. I don't know where you live, but here in Ohio, pretty soon our flea problem should be coming to a halt. Good luck!

Get an exterminator to come to your house.
Put your dogs outside for a week or two. And don't buy any more flea collars they don't work. As your vet for some meds.

I would flea bomb the whole house. You can buy them quite cheaply...I get mine at the dollar store. You will probably have to do it every week for a while. But to be honest if they were that bad I would get an enterminator out to take care of them.

Feed your pets garlic, fleas don't like it, either in gel caps form or in their food ( garlic bologna, for instance ). Also, you might try lavender oil, put a few drops where your pets sleep, or directly on the pet, at the back of their neck. Hope this helps.
